We all want to do our part to make sure the earth’s resources are conserved so that we can leave something for the future. We also wish to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions released into the earth’s atmosphere after all, if we do not take ownership and do our part in working toward conservation, our children and grandchildren are the ones who will to have to pay the highest price and inherit the problems that we leave behind.

It is the growing unpredictability of global warming, the effects it has on our earth and the consequences we face that has so many people wanting to do their part to make sure that they are leaving behind a better earth.

At the rate we are voraciously consuming the earth’s natural resources for the transportation, technological and industrial sectors would see us need two earths just to sustain our current demand and unfortunately because we only have one, we need to curb our appetite for energy consumption or we will simply run out.
Because it is we that determine the demand for our natural resources it is we that can bring about the change necessary to see our earth preserved for longer. Even as individuals, together this is where we can make the biggest difference.
By simply consuming less such as less electricity and fuel, the demand and prices will drop and the production of these resources will also drop in accordance. We as consumers really do have a lot of clout in that it is how much we consume collectively that dictates the global market supply. The less demand we place on our natural resources, the less supply is needed to satisfy the market, the more the prices go down and the more we preserve our precious, limited resources.
Making these important changes doesn’t have to be painful in fact you can start just doing some of the basics.

To reduce how much fuel you currently use, why not make a realistic goal to save an extra 10% per week on your fuel usage? This could easily be achieved by walking to places within a mile or two distance from your home or place of work. Taking your car for shorter trips can actually burn more fuel and carbon emissions as your engine tends to burn more fuel when it is cold. Travelling shorter distances doesn’t give your car the chance to warm properly making it less fuel efficient. Be more selective in using your car by driving it only when you really need to.

There are other things that you can do on a daily basis that can help the environment. Believe it or not, many people aren’t aware that just by ensuring that the lights are switched off in a room when it is not in use can have a huge impact. The truth is that just one house doing this is a small feat; however, if everyone were to practice this means of energy conservation then it’s estimated that it would reduce the world’s energy consumption by twenty five percent – and this is a life changing amount.

Something else that you can do to try and reduce your impact is to implement a digital thermostat in your home so that it can better regulate the temperature, even when you are not home. You can program the thermostat to turn off at certain hours and then to come back on shortly before you return home.

Most city waste management units also have specialized recycling bins that people can use to make sure their items are processed and reused. While you may not think of recycling as something that can help with energy consumption, it can. Many times recycling does not take the same amount of energy that it does to produce new items the first time around. Something else to keep in mind is that by recycling, you are also fulfilling your bigger goal by consuming less. The less consumption, the less demand and the less you pay.

Other ways that you can help to manage your usage of the earth’s energy resources is to make sure that you use solar energy whenever possible. For example, you can use solar panels to operate some of your appliances as well as converting over your outdoor lighting system to a solar one.

If you follow these simple guidelines you can help to do your part in trying to make the environment a better place for your family and future generations to come.
