If you love painting, but you hate the fumes it releases, there are now many green options in the world of interior decorating that can be less stressful to your health and to the environment. Still not sure if going green is the right choice for you? Read on to discover more about greener and safer alternatives in the world of paints.

Did you know that the air inside of your home can actually be as much as 10 times worse that the air outdoors? And even though those pollutions lurking in your home can’t be attributed to just one single source, what type of paint you choose can play a significant role towards the problem.

What most homeowners don’t realize is that many mass produced paints contain chemicals that are extremely toxic, which can also contribute to not only the air inside your home, but also the smog and ozone depletion in our world. And while it’s easy to smell the toxic fumes in a freshly painted room, it’s impossible to smell the off-gas release that can continue to pollute the air for years to come.

And, these gases are especially dangerous to babies, young children and our elderly whose immune systems are highly sensitive to toxic chemicals. So, if toxins are a serious concern, then going green when it comes to paints should be your first choice when you’re ready to paint your home or when you’re considering hiring house painters.

There are actually 3 painting options you can choose from, and depending on how much you’re willing to invest into the quality of the paint there are Zero-VOC paints, clay paints and milk paints.

With Zero-Voc paints you can purchase them yourself in a wide variety of colors that are as easy to apply as they are durable.

Clay paints contain soy and plant-based ingredients that are biodegradable, absorb odors and give a suede-like finish. However, they are only available in earth-tones and are often difficult to apply.

Milk paints contain all natural ingredients and are best for families with babies and small children.  They are biodegradable, but the color choices are limited for house painting and it comes in a powder form, so you‘ll need to mix it before application.

For many of us who spend a lot of time in our home, choosing green paint products are a healthier choice when it comes to interior painting.

What will you choose?
