We all know the effects of global warming. Today, more of society is taking giant strides towards creating a greener world.  There are even people pursuing an online environmental studies education to figure out new methods. If we don’t continue to take ownership for our carbon footprints and our general energy and water usage, we run the risk of putting our children and grandchildren into a dangerous environmental situation.  They will pay the highest price and have to fix the problems that we leave them with.

Global warming is so unpredictable that it is forcing people to take extra steps to make sure the earth they leave behind is just a little bit better.

Because of the extreme amount of resources we are using for transportation, technology and industrial purposes, we would need two earths just to let us continue our current consumption. Obviously, this is impossible to have, so we need to start reducing our consumption or we are going to run out before we know it.

By using less fuel and energy, the demand and price will drastically drop. As consumers, we have a lot of influence on production companies.  We indirectly control the market supply of consumed goods.  The less we use, the less supply is needed and the prices will lower.  Ultimately, this is one of the most productive means of preserving our natural resources.

Yes, by making these changes, your lifestyle will be altered.  This is a lifestyle change, but it doesn’t have to be difficult.  Here are a few tips on how to easily transition into a greener lifestyle:

  1. Reduce how much fuel you consume.  Try cutting at least 10% out of your usual fuel usage. Try walking or carpooling for starters.  Be a little extra cautious as to when you use your car.  Shorter car trips actually burn more fuel.  Consider where you are going and whether driving is the only option.
  2. Turn the lights off when you aren’t using them.  The world’s consumption would drop by 25% if everyone were to practice this simple trick.
  3. Invest in a digital thermostat.  You have better control over the internal temperature of your house, whether you are home or not.
  4. Recycle.  City waste management units have recycling bins that you could use to separate your garbage from recyclable items.
  5. Use solar energy whenever you can. Solar panels and wind generators have grown in popularity in the past few years.  You can install them yourself with a kit for as little as $200.

It doesn’t take much effort, but by following these simple tricks, you are well on your way to creating a better environment for your family.
